TalkFit ("the Service") respects your privacy and complies with the Personal Information Protection Act of the Republic of Korea and other applicable laws.
1. Information We Collect
- Google sign-in: email address, display name, profile photo URL, account identifier (UID)
- Learning activity: learning records, XP, level, daily streak, quiz results
- Text you enter: Korean/English text you submit for AI analysis
- Audio files you upload: audio files you choose to upload for transcription and analysis (up to 4MB)
- YouTube URLs: video links you enter in the video-learning feature
- Feedback: comments submitted through the beta feedback form, along with your email (if signed in) and basic browser/device information (a truncated User-Agent string)
- Automatically collected: your IP address, used solely to count daily AI requests and prevent abuse. It is held in server memory for the current day and reset daily.
The Service does not collect national identification numbers, payment information, location data, or contacts.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Saving your learning progress and syncing it across devices
- Calculating leaderboard rankings (your first name, XP, level, and streak are displayed)
- Providing AI-powered English learning features (sentence analysis, correction, conversation, audio transcription, video-based learning)
- Statistical analysis to improve the Service and to respond to inquiries and feedback
- Preventing abnormal use and excessive API calls
3. Retention and Deletion
- Personal information is retained while you use the Service.
- When you delete your account, learning data stored on our servers (Firebase Firestore), your leaderboard entry, and your account information are deleted immediately.
- Text, audio, and video URLs sent for AI processing are not separately stored on our servers. Retention by our processor (Google) is governed by Google's own terms.
- Where retention is required by law, data is kept for the required period and then destroyed.
4. Sharing and Processing by Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information and do not provide it to third parties without your consent. We use the following processors to operate the Service:
- Google Gemini API: to provide AI learning features, the Korean/English text you enter, the audio files you upload, and the YouTube video URLs you submit are sent to the Gemini API. Account identifiers such as your name and email are not sent with them.
- Firebase (Google): account authentication and learning data storage
- Vercel: app hosting and web analytics
- Disclosure required by law
Content you submit may itself contain personal information, so please do not enter or upload other people's personal data or sensitive information.
The recording mode uses your browser's built-in speech recognition (Web Speech API), which may send your voice to your browser vendor's servers (for example, Google or Apple).
5. Your Rights
- Access / update: you can view your account information and learning records in the Settings screen.
- In-app account deletion: you can permanently delete your account yourself at Settings → Account → Delete Account (계정 삭제). Deletion removes your learning records, XP, level, streak, conversation analysis history, leaderboard entry, locally stored data on your device, and your sign-in account itself. This cannot be undone.
- Email request (fallback): if in-app deletion does not work, contact us at the address below and we will delete your data after verification.
- Local data: signing out and clearing your browser data removes data stored on your device.
6. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under the age of 14 (as defined under Korean law, 만 14세 미만), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that a child under 14 has provided personal information without the consent of a legal guardian, we will delete that information without delay. Guardians may contact us at the address below to review or request deletion of such information.
7. Third-Party Services
The Service shows no advertising, contains no third-party advertising SDKs, and does not sell personal information.
8. Cookies and Local Storage
The Service stores your learning progress in your browser's localStorage. In guest mode (not signed in), sessionStorage is used instead, so the data disappears when you close the browser tab. This storage is essential to providing the Service and can be cleared from your browser settings.
9. Security Measures
- All communication is encrypted over HTTPS.
- AI API keys are kept only in server environment variables and are never exposed in the app.
- Access rules restrict learning data so that it can be read and written only by the signed-in owner.
10. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, we will post the effective date and the changes on this page. Significant changes will also be announced within the Service.
